If it was 3-plus years ago, it may not work on all mobile devices. But, if your website structure is more current--perhaps.

In the last half of 2012, 41% of emails were opened on mobile devices - a 50% increase over the same time period in 2011. If this many emails were opened on mobile devices, website opens on mobile devices are not too far behind. So, now is the time to make certain your website is mobile friendly.

Even with such strong trends, many people don't think their websites are opened on mobile devices. Yet soon, people will more likely view websites from their mobile devices versus their desktops.

So, how do you make your website mobile friendly?

The answer is responsive web design. The design provides an optimal viewing experience for the user or the customer--easy reading and navigation with minimal resizing, panning, and scrolling. This applies to a wide range of devices from desktops to mobile devices.

Websites should be built with responsive web design to accommodate all screen sizes.

Remember if you're going to use this design on your website, you should also apply it to your emails.

What will happen to my business if my website’s not mobile friendly?

Websites need to be mobile friendly ASAP or the user is going to find a competing website. If your website is difficult to view on a smartphone or tablet and the user cannot get the information he’s seeking, he’ll find a mobile friendly website and place his order there.

It’s all about user experience. If someone spends too much time scrolling and can't push the buttons correctly to obtain more information from your website, then they are going to leave your website and search for a site they can get the information.

Depending on your business type, whether your an e-commerce-driven site or a Business to Business organization using your site to get people through the sales cycle quicker--there's no doubt your site needs to be reflective of information the user demands. And the demand is you are responsive to their needs.

So, look at your smart phone or someone else’s. If you have to scroll too much or experience difficulty viewing the pages then consider RWD for your website.

The ultimate goal is to increase sales because more and more people are buying services online so consider keeping your website, your face to the world--current.
